Abstract
- Resonant scattering of Ly<math>\alpha</math> photons from intergalactic HI causes energy exchange between radiation field and gas.
- Thus gas is heated due to recoil of the scattered atoms.
- This Ly<math>\alpha</math> heating affects gas density, temperature and velocity perturbations.
- Perturbations smaller than photon diffusion length are damped due to heat conduction by photons.
- To find this length scale and the affect of Ly<math>\alpha</math> photons on perturbations gas heating rates need to be calculate.
- This is calculated by numerically solving the linearized Boltzmann equation.
- It turns out that perturbations add a small correction to the gas heating rate and
- the damping of temperature perturbations occurs at scales much smaller than the relevant jeans scale, thus this effect will not be visible in EoR signal.
